Friction Welding
Welding Processes
Friction welding creates a joint by using mechanical friction between the two parts to be joined. Because it uses no external heat source, it is not technically a welding process. It’s often used to join dissimilar materials – such as aluminum to steel.- No external heat source eliminates thermal distortion
- Because no metal is melted, there is no grain growth or alteration in metals
- Can join materials with vastly different melting points
